What are the Highest Paying Careers for People Without a College Degree?

Today’s article is to somewhat debunk the misconception that college degrees mean you will earn more money in the future. According to the Bureau of Labor Stats, a great deal of entrepreneurs and ambitious people have done well their entire lives without one. In fact, a 50k/year salary is very achievable if you have a heart and passion for what you do.

A few jobs that pay quite a bit without requiring a college degree are:

1. Real Estate Broker – One of my friends is actually a real estate broker at the tender age of 19 (and she’s hardly finished with college). She also does appraisals for property value and rakes in about 800 dollars an hour. Your salary will depend on the market you are in, but in most cases, the average salary for Real Estate Brokers is $76,000/year. Note that you will have to take some certification courses, but these are easily completed online nowadays.

2. Personal Trainer – They make about 50 thousand dollars a year if they are working in a gym and 20 thousand dollars part time. If they own their own fitness business/programs, they make considerably more.

3. Air Traffic Controller – An air traffic controller makes 100k a year without a college degree. It is also one of the most dangerous and stressful jobs though. If you want to raise your salary as an Air Traffic Controller, you will need to get a degree at some point in the future.

NOTE: Many of the top-paying occupations in the US have to do with manual work, and most of them can be undertaken without a college degree. Some examples include electricians and electric equipment repair ($54,000 USD); rail workers ($46,000 USD); firefighters ($48,000 USD); car mechanics ($37,000 USD); and boilermakers ($43,000 USD). Many military posts can be obtained without a college degree. A sergeant in active service and a decade of service behind him or her earns about 49,000 USD a year.

4. Working Online from Home – With eBay, Amazon, and other online marketplaces, why wouldn’t you try to create your own store online?

Inkvis offers some wonderful web, print, and ecommerce solutions if you want to host your own website. You can also learn to program by yourself and take some certification courses at your local community college. Most employers value on-the-job training and real-world experience over mindless number-crunching and projects in college.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this article about the best careers you can get without a college degree. Just be creative, love what you do, and the sky’s the limit!
